Often the end of tyranny, injustice and oppression is celebrated in
the most glorious of ways! That is why, independence days are
celebrated with such splendor and happiness! Similarly, the 9th of Rabi
ul Awwal is considered to be one the grandest of Eids because it marked
the revenge of the oppression and tyranny of Karbala. This is the day,
when Imam Zainul Abideen smiled for the first time after the horrendous
massacre of his father and companions.
9th Rabiul Awwal was the
day when Mukhtar ath Thaqafi took revenge from the killers of Imam
Hussain. A brief story of this is as follows:
Mukhtar was
arrested before the Battle of Karbala and therefore was unable to take
part in the battle. He was the son of Abu Ubaid bin Masoud who had led
the Muslim army to conquer the Persia. Ubaidullah ibn Ziyad wanted to
kill Mukhtar in the prison but Yazid ordered him not to do so on the
request of Abdullah ibn Umar (who was the husband of Mukhtar’s sister).
Yazeed asked Ibn Ziyad to release Mukhtar. Ibn Ziyad told Mukhtar that
he had to leave Kufa in the next three days or he would kill him.
Therefore, Mukhtar left Kufa and headed towards Makkah.

Ya Allah, strengthen your creature,
Mighten him so that he may aid,
Aba Abdillah, the Chosen One
For whom saving Islam, was made.
I remain patient, waiting, looking
At the River before me freely flow.
This thirst is weakening my ability,
I do not know how much longer I can go.
My saddle is empty, how do I return?

"May Allah bestow upon us and upon you great reward for grief of Imam
Hussein (as), and make us and you amongst those who will assist Imam
Mahdi (altf) to avenge his killing."
Karbala is the story of an exceptional man who left the comfort of his
home to live in plains of tragedy and misery to fight against the
Kuffar who had been polluting the world after the time of the Prophet.
His fight was to restore freedom, peace, equality and justice, all
qualities which represent our prefect religion and keeps it alive until
today.
