Al Quds Day 2009
A day where people from all over the UK had gathered to stand up for justice and stand for the rights of the Palestinian people. Alhamdulilah we managed to organise 3 coaches from Birmingham. We may not have had all the coaches full due to people dropping out, but I was very happy to see the youth of Birmingham come out in their numbers to support this noble cause.

The Council of European Jamaats has published a booklet of English
poetry about the tragedy of Karbala. These poems have been written by
members of our community over the past few weeks; and commemorate the
massacre of Imam Husayn (a.s.); his family and his companions over 1400
years ago. These booklets are available for free; and are being
distributed in Jamaats across Europe.
|
This booklet has been compiled by the Youth Desk in order to promote
the commemoration of this calamity; by all members of our community but
especially by the youth. It is hoped that the poems in this booklet
will be recited in our centres this Ashra-e-Zainabiyya; but also in
future years.
With a print edition of 1000 copies; facilitated kindly by donations
and sponsorships; copies are available to all for free; via our Jamaats
across Europe.
We would like to thank all the contributors for
their efforts - from the quality of the work the poets clearly took
time and effort in writing their submissions; and unfortunately we
could not publish all the poems we received. Thanks must also go to all
those who have supported this project; they have contributed toward the
successful completion of this project.

Often the end of tyranny, injustice and oppression is celebrated in
the most glorious of ways! That is why, independence days are
celebrated with such splendor and happiness! Similarly, the 9th of Rabi
ul Awwal is considered to be one the grandest of Eids because it marked
the revenge of the oppression and tyranny of Karbala. This is the day,
when Imam Zainul Abideen smiled for the first time after the horrendous
massacre of his father and companions.
9th Rabiul Awwal was the
day when Mukhtar ath Thaqafi took revenge from the killers of Imam
Hussain. A brief story of this is as follows:
Mukhtar was
arrested before the Battle of Karbala and therefore was unable to take
part in the battle. He was the son of Abu Ubaid bin Masoud who had led
the Muslim army to conquer the Persia. Ubaidullah ibn Ziyad wanted to
kill Mukhtar in the prison but Yazid ordered him not to do so on the
request of Abdullah ibn Umar (who was the husband of Mukhtar’s sister).
Yazeed asked Ibn Ziyad to release Mukhtar. Ibn Ziyad told Mukhtar that
he had to leave Kufa in the next three days or he would kill him.
Therefore, Mukhtar left Kufa and headed towards Makkah.
